ETA:
[livejournal.com profile] rucchi informs me that his friend worked on the short animated film "Gopher Broke" - so I will be rooting for that!

and Jim Carrey gets passed up . . . AGAIN.

man.

I was sure he would get it this time.

It is weird that Kate Winslet was nominated for Eternal Sunshine and he wasn't.

Forget about Carrey, what about both Michael Moore and Mel Gibson being shut up completely?! Not to mention Tom Cruise (ha ha!) yet again. Otherwise, I'm pleasanly shocked that Maria Full of Grace wasn't overlooked.

I figured they would just avoid both of those movies like the plague. Passion got some nods for technical, but they're not touching those with a ten foot pole.

I suppose Michael Moore can console himself with his People's Choice Award. Unless I get an e-mail from MoveOn later this morning urging an inquiry into award show voter fraud.

betcha Michael Moore is regretting pulling F911 out of the running for best doc, in hopes of getting a nom for best pic.

I'm totally bummed about this too. I think that he's a far superior drama actor then he is a comedic one.

I haven't even seen any of the movies up for best picture.

... and the only one I'll probably end up seeing is Sideways...

I actually wanted to see Finding Neverland. I think that Johny Depp is a great actor.

I'm usually a huge Oscar fan, but this list is stunning in it's boredom and "safeness."

here's the thing.

you all know how much I love Clint Eastwood. As an actor and as an archetype.

but as a director, his movies are soooooooo boring. They are plodding, contrived, uninspiring, and unremittingly DULL.

there. I said it. I feel better now.

wow, it's like each year, i care less and less. and i'm quite surprised that paul giamatti got passed up for sideways, even though i'm quite happy that don cheadle FINALLY got nominated for something.

in other news, i had a dream about thomas hayden church last night. i need to go scrub my brain out with some clorox.

Ha! that was what was running through my head the entire movie.

Though I do have to say, I loved Sideways, and he did a great job. Not as good as Paul Giamatti, damn you academy.

But hurray for Clive Owens.
I really like him.
He seems dangerous, yet I want to kiss him.

Ooh me too. Though Closer ain't even close to how fantastically kickass (and hott) he was in Croupier. Or even those BMW movies where he had to deal with deadweight "co-stars" like Madonna.

I really liked the Croupier also, that is the first film I saw him in.

I heard some really disturbing things about Closer, so despite my girl Natalie and the hotness that is Clive and Ewan I've stayed away.

Go see Kinsey instead!

If only Ewan McGregor had been in this film! He would've injected more life into it than Jude Law or Julia Roberts. It was so damn mannered and glossy that I had a hard time buying any of the leads as being capable of jealousy or sexual passion, let alone an orgasm.

I'd heard it was disturbing too and was surprised at how much Closer didn't affect me. Maybe that's because I'm cynical, but the cock talk and toxic intimacy didn't phase me. There is one scene between Clive Owen & Natalie Portman (which is probably the reason why they've received awards) which could be disturbing because of the age difference and how his character is so openly needy. But I was kind of distracted the whole time by the staginess of the dialogue and the "that's so obvious" choice of How Soon Is Now behind their dialogue.

Man, I saw TONS of films this year, yet the only ones off that list were Shrek 2, The Incredibles, and Super Size Me. Ha!

From: [identity profile] the-missy.livejournal.com
At least now I know I don't need to watch the ceremony this year. I didn't find a movie I'd seen until the animated film category.

And really, if The Incredibles doesn't win over Shark Tale and Shrek 2, that'll be concrete proof that there is no god.

I'm disappionted Jim Carey isn't nominated, but I'm pleased that Johnny Depp is nominated.

It's pretty sad that the only movies I've seen that are anywhere on this list are Shrek 2 ans Shark Tale.
