Wow, just wow. The state of Oregon is trying to pass a law that states:
"A person commits the crime of terrorism if the person knowingly plans, participates in or carries out any act that is intended, by at least one of its participants, to disrupt:
(a) The free and orderly assembly of the inhabitants of the State of Oregon;
(b) Commerce or the transportation systems of the State of Oregon; or
(c) The educational or governmental institutions of the State of Oregon or its inhabitants."

All of this is punishable by life in prison. McCarthyism, here we come...

"Of course the people don't want war... That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
-- Hermann Goering, Adolf Hitler's Deputy Chief and Luftwaffe Commander, at the Nuremberg trials, 1946 from "Nuremberg Diary" by G M Gilbert (Signet, New York, 1947).

...Which, is in no way saying that Bush is as bad a Hitler, but simply a timely reminder that just because your government decides to do something does not mean that we all have to step in line and mindlessly support authority.

This is making me SO MAD!! This asshole republican state senator from a Portland suburb, John Minnis, is trying to pass this fascist law. I hope it gets stopped in its tracks. Some of the oregon legislators are actually decent, so hopefully they'll step up.

Yes, let's let the car & house thieves out of jail, & imprison the peace protesters as terrorists, that will definitely make Oregon a better place to live.

I'll quote a letter to the editor yesterday:

"Sen. John Minnis, R-Wood Village, needs to spend more time looking for ways to repair our schools and bridges and less time trying to erode our freedom to dissent."

right on!

I know! It's just like that congressman wasting his time renaming French Fries Freedom Fries, shouldn't he be doing something more useful for the citizens of the United States?
That proposed law has to be unconstitutional, it just has to be...
