"Anasazi" means "enemy ancestor" in Navajo--I also think I read "non-Navajo ancestor" somewhere, so as far as I know the Navajo, who are thought to have migrated from northern Canada, do not consider themselves descended from Ancient Pueblo peoples--whereas modern Pueblo (i.e. Hopi and all of the different Pueblos--Zuni, Jemez, Laguna, Taos, etc--in New Mexico) do. The Navajo did learn from and otherwise interact with Pueblo people when they arrived in the area, which is something I think both the spiritual and scientific origins agree with. But I am a white girl from the midwest, so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.
