Ah my alma mater, GO SLUGS! It's true, the whole focus has been changed to the hard sciences and engineering given the proximity to Silicon Valley. Also interesting that they mention UCSC in the context of talking about class and priviledge because my experience was that a large # of my classmates came from very wealthy, very priviledged backgrounds (and Santa Cruz itself is one of the 5 most expensive communities in the US).
