Reading: Still enjoying rereading the Dark Tower series - just got to the part in Wastelands when they bring Jake through the speaking circle - classic Stephen King - I forgot how scary that scene in the old mansion was!
Wearing: Black tank, black leggings, embroidered black Chinese style coat. Bare feet :) Ah, working from home has it's perks!
Planning: Low key night drinking wine and watching Cleo from 5 to 7 with Nick. We both had a big week - he gave his first talk to the department and I just submitted the first draft of my second chapter to my dissertator group (with this chapter I think it really is a "first" draft, not a "rough" draft - can't wait to hear what the group thinks!). We don't have plans yet for the weekend, but I'd love to get out somewhere, maybe bike down to Liberty Park, have a picnic, throw a frisbee around, and check out some birds.
It's turning Fall here and it's weird and fun to experience such a different "fall." On the one hand, you can totally tell - the air is different, the trees and plants are changing, it's a little cooler - but on the other hand, it's still beautiful out with dry and clear skies, whole *different* plants are popping up (apparently people have FALL GARDENS here!!), and you still don't need a coat or even long sleeves.
More than a couple people have mentioned to me via various forms (including here!) that they are really enjoying my stories of life here and that really makes my heart happy. So many times social media can put you in a bad mood - negative feelings, presumptions, inability to express tone or sarcasm, one-upsmanship, and fame whores - I'm glad that something I did made someone happy. As Voltaire said, "Cela est bien dit, rèpondit Candide, mais il faut cultiver notre jardin."
