Last week I had the pleasure of seeing Margaret Atwood speak at the Earth Day conference at the Monona Terrace (both her public lecture and the smaller, more informal one she gave to CHE affiliates) (Atwood blogged about it here). She was a professional and wonderfully hilarious speaker, handling the typical Madison "question and answer" period well ("but let me tell you all about this thing that I do and you can comment on how I'm awesome").
I think my favorite joke was [paraphrased]: "On Mother's Day you make the homemade card, give her the apron. On Father's Day you make the homemade card, give him some shaving cream. But what do you do for the Earth? A homemade card and a pandemic plague that wipes out humanity?"
