Crazy?

Who would have thought, back in 2008, when I started to do Couch-to-5K with [livejournal.com profile] antarcticlust that I would be considering a half marathon? OK, maybe you guys did, but I didn't.

Much like my climbing and yoga practice, I've realized what it's like to plateau and that if you want more out of it you have to put more in. Going climbing two times a week has done wonders for my skills - last night (and [livejournal.com profile] alexeye, you'll get this) I had one of those moments where I'd done a route almost a dozen times and always thought one part seemed harder than it should be and last night put my foot in a counter-intuitive position and was like "OH! It's so *easy* now!"

So, I'm doing this program, which comes highly recommended and looks very manageable, especially because I can already run 10K. My goal will be the Madison (half) Marathon, which, according to the website is 110 days away! I'm not going to worry too much about the cross and strength training, considering I do climbing and yoga both twice a week. I've even convinced Nick to do CrazyLegs with me the month before (it's only 8K and ends with beer - SO Wisconsin).

ooh, crazylegs looks awesome!

i love that *click* moment in climbing. especially because climbing is so much more of a thinking sport than most of the other athletic activities i take part in. i think it's super awesome that you're training for a half - i have been thinking of finding a program that will get me up to 10K, since i have really plateaued at the 5K length.

You should come up for it :)

It was one of those situations where I always felt like I was missing a foothold because the nearest one for my left foot was way off to the left and the next hold was for my right hand. Of course by using that foothold, it pushed my right hip into the wall and I barely had to move to get that handhold.

ooh, i would love to. it's smack in the middle of a couple of weeks with a lot of work events, and carl would be out because he has finals that next week, but i will definitely think on it a bit and let you know!

i love it when that stuff happens! also, learning to use smearing moves really changed my climbing. all of a sudden it felt like the whole wall was useable (at least for my feet).

I always forget that I can smear!

I'm signing up for my half marathon today (it's payday)! Are you considering the Novice 2 program since you are already up to 10K at one time? Just asking because I can't decide which one to do myself. 1 seems almost too easy but it's my first half so I don't want to overdo it...

That's exactly what I was thinking, so I'm going with novice 1. It sounded like 2 was for people who had already raced a 10K or half marathon and were trying to improve their time - I just want to finish, I don't care about time! The last time I did a 10K I was able to do it in just under an hour, so I'm just fine with that sort of pace.

Yeah, good point. In any case, my race is not until end of June so I have a couple months to decide what training program to do. :) Good luck to you!

Congrats on signing up for a half! It is SO worth it.

Gah, I haven't done one since 2010 but I miss the feeling of training for one and getting through, it is AMAZING. Makes you feel like you can do anything.

I really need to do one this year!
