(Columbus did not prove that the world was round. Europeans had believed that for hundreds of years and there was no way the Spanish government would fund a trip like that unless they believed he would reach Asia - which he could not do unless the world was round.)

But - regardless of whether or not the map is authentic, the reaction to it and any other suggestion that America was explored/settled from the East is very telling of deeper prejudices.
