Whether or not the map is authentic, it is certainly true that the Chinese knew a great deal more about the globe than did the europeans before Columbus et al. Apart from overturning the flat earth theory, Columbus was also trying to reach the major world trading centres (East and South Asia) by a route that avoided the Middle East and the damned Musulmans.
