Some Vanity

Am I the only one who sometimes looks in the mirror and thinks "My god! My neck! You can get wrinkles there?" If this is shallow and vain to you, look away now! For the rest of us...

So, this winter I am breaking down and researching and buying some non-supermarket brand skin care. I started with this starter kit by Peter Thomas Roth and I already love it:

It hasn't been long enough yet to see any visible difference, but I love how it makes my face feel.

I'm not a big make up person and usually only use it lightly for special events, especially to cover up dark under-eyes or even skin tone, but I also finally broke down and bought a primer (like the Roth stuff, it also has glycolic and salicylic acids, good for aging skin):

I already had fairly good luck with this spot reducer (not a huge difference, but way better than the fancy Clinique one):

One thing I've noticed is that even though I like Sephora a lot, they have awful reviews for anti-aging products. Most of the reviewers focus on acne, which, honestly is not the reason I'm buying anti-aging products, you know? This is understandable - I'm sure most of their clientele is younger - and I'm sure this will change over time. In the meantime, I'll be sure to add my reviews to help ladies like myself.

If you made it this far, here's a picture of Oink:

I remember in 4th grade, a friend's mom warned us all about neck wrinkles during a slumber party and said we should always moisturize our neck as well as our face. I never forgot that!

Me, I have, like, CLEAVAGE wrinkles that I am bummed about.

Oh, for me it's the jowl lines. I am so afraid of the ( parentheses ) around my mouth. Also the \/ between my eyebrows! Stress lines, I'm sure. At least my gray hair is coming in on the temples, in a cool way.

I have noticed my skin change since 30, and had to switch stuff up to control acne. I have such sensitivity to benzyl peroxide & salicylic acid that I had to hunt down the sulfer-based zit cream I used years ago, Acnomel. I found it for $10 for a tiny tube on Amazon, but it's totally worth it. Other than that, I've been loving the slightly-more-expensive-than-supermarket Aubrey Organics line for washing/moisturizing. I look forward to your reviews!

I've been obsessed with aging since I was in my early 20s! You only get one skin, you know? And once the damage is done there's only so much you can do to "reverse" or remedy it. I know it's rooted in vanity but also I just think it's part of overall health and wellness, your skin being an "organ" and all that. I'm also trying to lose some weight - again partly for vanity but also for health. It all goes together.

Gah! Just be thankful that you aren't one of those 30-somethings like me that need pimple AND wrinkle cream! Welcome to my fresh hell.

I was actually just wondering if I should be using some sort of anti-aging preventative face stuff. It just seems so overwhelming with all the options (and so expensive).

I don't have that particular primer, but another one by that brand (and the accompanying mineral makeup) and I really like them!

Unrelated to skin care per se, I have found that eyeshadow primer is a miracle worker.

I started that in earnest about 5 years ago. I used to use Philosophy products, but it started pissing off my skin so have since switched to Caudalie which I love. I also took the leap this weekend and bought a Clairsonic. It's magic, I swear. Makes my skin feel so clean and smooth.
